In astonishingly general terms, there are 3 basic tactics employed. You must be agile enough to switch tactics almost instantly as the course of the game unfolds.

The Blockade

This is composed of assembling a 6-deep wall of pieces, or at least as deep as you are able to manage, to barricade in the competitor’s checkers that are located on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most adequate procedure at the start of the match. You can assemble the wall anyplace inbetween your 11-point and your two-point and then shift it into your home board as the game progresses.

The Blitz

This is comprised of locking your home board as fast as as you can while keeping your opposer on the bar. For example, if your opponent rolls an early 2 and shifts one piece from your 1-point to your three-point and you then roll a 5-5, you are able to play six/one 6/1 8/3 8/3. Your opposer is then in serious difficulty seeing that they have two checkers on the bar and you have closed half your inner board!

The Backgame

This course of action is where you have two or higher anchors in your opponent’s inner board. (An anchor is a point filled by at a minimum two of your checkers.) It would be played when you are extremely behind as it much improves your circumstances. The best areas for anchor spots are towards your competitor’s lower points and either on adjacent points or with a single point in between. Timing is important for a powerful backgame: besides, there’s no reason having two nice anchor spots and a complete wall in your own home board if you are then required to break apart this right away, while your challenger is moving their pieces home, taking into account that you don’t have any other spare pieces to move! In this situation, it is more favorable to have checkers on the bar so that you might preserve your position until your opposer gives you a chance to hit, so it can be an excellent idea to attempt and get your opposer to hit them in this case!
