As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and pure luck. The aim is to shift your checkers carefully around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opponent shifts their checkers toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific strategies at particular times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon tactics to round out your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to move his chips, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely barricade any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you have successfully assembled the prime to stop the activity of your opponent, your opponent does not even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you shift your pieces and toss the dice again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The aims of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game technique relies on different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is generally utilized when you’re far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this tactic, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
