The Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part 1
The aim of a Backgammon game is to shift your pieces around the Backgammon board and pull them off the game board faster than your opposing player who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a match of Backgammon requires both strategy and good luck. Just how far you can move your chips is up to the numbers from tossing the dice, and how you move your pieces are determined by your overall playing plans. Players use different plans in the different stages of a game depending on your positions and opponent’s.
The Running Game Strategy
The aim of the Running Game strategy is to entice all your chips into your inside board and pull them off as quickly as you can. This technique focuses on the speed of advancing your pieces with no time spent to hit or barricade your opponent’s checkers. The ideal time to employ this technique is when you think you can move your own chips faster than the opponent does: when 1) you have less pieces on the board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your competitor’s pieces; or 3) the opposing player does not use the hitting or blocking strategy.
The Blocking Game Tactic
The primary goal of the blocking tactic, by the name, is to stop the opponent’s pieces, temporarily, not worrying about shifting your checkers quickly. As soon as you’ve created the blockage for the opponent’s movement with a couple of pieces, you can shift your other checkers swiftly off the board. The player should also have an apparent plan when to back off and shift the pieces that you employed for the blockade. The game gets intriguing when your opponent utilizes the same blocking technique.
