The goal of a Backgammon match is to move your chips around the game board and pull those pieces off the board faster than your competitor who works harder to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a match of Backgammon requires both tactics and good luck. How far you will be able to move your checkers is left to the numbers from rolling the dice, and how you shift your checkers are decided on by your overall playing plans. Players use a number of tactics in the differing parts of a game depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Tactic

The aim of the Running Game plan is to bring all your pieces into your home board and pull them off as quickly as you can. This tactic concentrates on the speed of advancing your checkers with no efforts to hit or block your competitor’s pieces. The ideal scenario to employ this tactic is when you think you might be able to shift your own chips quicker than the opposing player does: when 1) you have less pieces on the game board; 2) all your pieces have past your competitor’s pieces; or 3) the opposing player does not use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Technique

The primary goal of the blocking tactic, by the title, is to stop the opponent’s pieces, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your pieces rapidly. As soon as you have created the barrier for the opponent’s movement with a few checkers, you can move your other checkers rapidly off the board. You really should also have a good strategy when to withdraw and move the checkers that you used for blocking. The game gets interesting when your competitor uses the same blocking technique.
