The objective of a Backgammon match is to shift your checkers around the Backgammon board and get those pieces off the board faster than your opposing player who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a round in Backgammon needsrequires both tactics and fortune. How far you can move your chips is up to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and the way you shift your pieces are determined by your overall playing plans. Enthusiasts use a number of plans in the different stages of a match based on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Strategy

The aim of the Running Game plan is to entice all your pieces into your inner board and pull them off as quickly as you could. This tactic focuses on the pace of moving your chips with little or no time spent to hit or barricade your opponent’s pieces. The ideal scenario to employ this tactic is when you believe you can shift your own chips quicker than your opponent does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the game board; 2) all your chips have past your opponent’s pieces; or 3) the opposing player doesn’t use the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Plan

The main aim of the blocking technique, by its title, is to stop the opponent’s checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your chips rapidly. Once you have established the barrier for your opponent’s movement with a couple of chips, you can move your other checkers rapidly off the board. The player will need to also have a good plan when to extract and shift the pieces that you employed for blocking. The game becomes interesting when the opposition uses the same blocking tactic.
