As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to shift your chips safely around the board to your inner board and at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces heading in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular tactics at specific instances. Here are the last two Backgammon strategies to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to shift her checkers, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely barricade any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get bumped, or result a battered position if she ever attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anyplace between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. After you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the activity of your opponent, the opponent doesn’t even get to roll the dice, that means you shift your chips and roll the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The objectives of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions hoping to better your odds of winning, but the Back Game tactic relies on different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game plan is generally utilized when you are far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this plan, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This tactic is more complex than others to use in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the pieces are relocated is partly the outcome of the dice roll.
